ArLA Board Retreat Redux

We got a lot of work done at the Arkansas Library Association Executive Board Retreat in Russellvile, AR this past weekend. In ALA related items, we did get a line item to give to the Freedom to Read Foundation. We also signed up for the ALA/ALTAFF joint membership program with local chapters, to entice trustees in getting more involved in our organizations. We also approved funding Hadi Dudley, our new Legislative Committee Chair, to attend National Library Legislation Day in Washington, DC and ArLA President Jim Robb, to attend the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA.  In addition, we got the ALA State of the Chapter filled out and mailed to the ALA Chapter Relations Office. I’m curious to see how this will benefit ALA and State Chapters in the future.

ArLA is looking for nominees for officers in 2013 including Vice-President/President-elect, Secretary/Treasurer, and ALA Councilor. If interested, contact Trish Miller, Nominating Committee Chair at trish.miller@remingtoncollege.edu. I think you’ll see a lot of new things happening this year, starting with a new Twitter hashtag #ArLA2012 and a new Twitter account: @arklibassoc. We’re also planning a website redesign that might include some blogging. So, stay tuned.

Arkansas Library Association Executive Board Retreat

Tomorrow I’m off to Russellville, Arkansas for the ArLA Executive Board Retreat. Besides dealing with my budget for the 2012 ALA Annual Conference, I also have a proposal asking ArLA to donate to the Freedom to Read Foundation, annually.  If there is some ALA-related activity at the meeting, I’ll try to post it to the blog.
